Low Testosterone
Testosterone is the “male” hormone primarily produced by the testes. There is a natural decline in testosterone levels in men with aging. Low testosterone, or male hypogonadism, is defined by lower than normal decline in testosterone levels expected for age.
- Symptoms of low testosterone can include low libido (sex drive), mood swings, hot flashes, low energy, decreased hair growth, infertility, and low bone density.
- Diagnosis is done with at least 1-2 morning blood tests for testosterone.
- Treatment-several formulations of testosterone replacement can be prescribed, including gels, patches, intramuscular or subcutaneous injections.
